EIGHTEEN

It takes one moment to change a day. One day to change a life and one life can change the world. We all have our moments, but moments are just that. It’s a moment, an instant and when we blink, it’s gone. So, we have a choice. We can make it work for us or we can miss the moment altogether.

I’m clutching a warm blanket as I stare at the curtains in the living room. The sun is bright, glaring in. I can’t shake off the horror I feel, every time I think of Ross holding me down, spreading my legs. My mind mules over Tyler, storming in, the sound of Ross’s neck, snapping and I shut my eyes as I think of Tyler’s words last night. ‘I’ve been around long enough to know. They can’t control it.’

I shake my head. Tyler saved me from Ross’s brutal attack. I said some awful things to him last night. ‘I said I’ll keep you safe. And that’s what I’m doing.’

Stepping out of the shower, I dash across towards my bedroom but stop before I enter. Taking a deep breath, I step inside and scan the room. Everything is in its place. The bed is even made and there is no trace of a maniac that barged in here last night, planning to rape me. It’s as if nothing happened.

I battle to find pants that actually fit me. Clearly, I’m losing weight. All my clothes are too big for me and are loose around my waist. Eventually, I slip on some tights and a t-shirt and brush my hair.

It’s deadly quiet in the house and when I walk back into the lounge, there is no one here. I find it odd. Where’s Tyler? And it dawns on me that we’re alone. Does Hagan know about Ross? Will he send a replacement? I have no doubt, he will.

It’s still early. It’s 07:34. After I had some coffee, I head back down the corridor passing my bedroom and the bathroom. The second bedroom down the hall’s door is closed. I’m not even sure who’s room that is. I’ve never gone past my bedroom before.

I walk to the end of the corridor and find the main bedroom. The door is halfway open, so I peek inside.

Tyler is lying on his back, fast asleep. I see his naked chest peeking out through the sheets and I walk inside. Careful not to make a sound.

My eyes are fixed on him, staring at his dark hair. He’s sleeping peacefully, and he looks relaxed, different from his normal tense expression. I want to run my fingers through his hair. Kiss those gorgeous lips. It would be so easy to lift the covers and get in beside him.

I study his perfectly straight nose, his long dark lashes. I drink him in. He’s lying here like a poster-boy. I want to engrave this picture in my head!

He stirs a little and I’m momentarily brought back out of my reverie.

I should leave, but I don’t.
